Bitdeer Expands Its Bitcoin Mining Operations: An Overview of May Developments

In May 2025, Bitdeer Technologies Group, a prominent player in the Bitcoin mining industry, reported a significant uptick in its self-mining capacity and international operations. With a strategic focus on innovation and expansion, the Singapore-based firm has positioned itself as a leader in the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency mining.

Increased Bitcoin Production

The company successfully mined 196 BTC in May, marking an 18% increase from April’s output. This growth aligns with its aggressive deployment strategy involving the proprietary SEALMINER A2 rigs, which have been distributed across various data centers located in the U.S., Norway, and Bhutan. These advancements reflect Bitdeer’s commitment to optimizing its mining capabilities and enhancing overall productivity.

Hashrate Milestone

Bitdeer’s proprietary hashrate has hit 13.6 exahashes per second (EH/s), fueled by the activation of 3.9 EH/s contributed by the SEALMINER A1 units and the ongoing rollout of the A2 models. This robust hashrate underlines the company’s technical prowess and strategy of continuously integrating cutting-edge mining technologies.

Hardware Shipments and Market Penetration

In an encouraging sign for the broader mining ecosystem, Bitdeer shipped 1.6 EH/s of SEALMINER A2 units to external customers in May. This robust demand indicates a growing adoption of its mining hardware, showcasing the company’s successful branding as a reliable supplier of mining solutions.

Infrastructure Development

Bitdeer is also advancing its infrastructure projects at a remarkable pace. In Norway, a significant 70 megawatts (MW) of a 175 MW planned expansion at the Tydal site is now operational, with plans for the completion of the remaining 105 MW anticipated by the end of June. Additionally, the Jigmeling site in Bhutan has begun energization, with plans to integrate an additional 368 MW for a total capacity of 500 MW. The company is also developing a 221 MW facility in Massillon, Ohio, aiming for a phased completion throughout the second half of the year.

Geographic Expansion

Bitdeer has set its sights on new markets as part of its international expansion strategy. Notably, the company is preparing a 50 MW site in Ethiopia in collaboration with a local partner. Furthermore, Bitdeer has secured a fully licensed property in Alberta, Canada, where a natural gas power plant is planned to support its mining operations. These moves are strategic in diversifying its operational footprint and leveraging local resources to boost productivity.

Financial Backing

In May, Bitdeer also received a financial boost when Tether exercised warrants from a prior financing round, providing the company with $50 million in exchange for over 5 million shares. This infusion of capital supports the firm’s ambitious growth plans and enhances its ability to invest in new technologies and infrastructure.

Future Outlook

Bitdeer has articulated its vision to achieve a self-mining capacity of 40 EH/s by October. This target highlights the firm’s strong growth trajectory and commitment to maintaining its position at the forefront of the Bitcoin mining sector.

Through a combination of increased production, technological advancements, infrastructural investments, and geographical expansions, Bitdeer is reshaping the landscape of cryptocurrency mining, paving the way for future innovations and operational efficiencies.
